The CW reveals the identities of 'America's Next Top Model 9' girls

The CW has revealed the identities of the wannabe models that will be strutting the runway on this fall's ninth season of America's Next Top Model.

Like the show's last four editions, Top Model 9 will feature 13 girls (one girl fewer than the franchise record 14 contestants Top Model's third and fourth seasons featured) and a judging panel comprised of show creator Tyra Banks, supermodel Twiggy, photographer Nigel Barker, and runway expert J. Alexander.

As in previous seasons, Top Model 9 will also feature additional special guest judges. Art director Jay Manuel -- who served as the host for this summer's recently-concluded second season of the show's Canada's Next Top Model adaptation -- will also return for Top Model's ninth season.

Top Model 9's cast ranges in age between 18 and 22 and includes nine students. The ninth-season cast is also unusually Northeast-focused -- four of the finalists are from Connecticut or Massachusetts, and two more are from New York and New Jersey. Two additional finalists also call Texas home. Rounding out the cast are five other girls from California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, and Indiana.

Unlike the show's last several seasons, Top Model 9 will not debut with a special two-hour broadcast. Instead, due to The CW's decision move the previously-announced September 26 premiere of its new Gossip Girl drama up a week, Top Model 9 will now premiere with a one-hour episode that will air on Wednesday, September 19 at 8PM ET/PT.

(Gossip Girl -- a teen drama that is being produced by The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz and narrated by former Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell -- has apparently begun generating enough buzz that the network decided it didn't want to have to wait an extra week for the show to begin to serve as Top Model's new Wednesdays at 9PM ET/PT lead-out.)

Due to the change to a one-hour premiere format, Top Model 9's September 19 broadcast will not end with the elimination of the competition's first finalist. Instead, the premiere will only chronicle the semifinals casting process that has traditionally comprised the first hour of Top Model's two-hour season premieres and conclude with the judges selecting the ninth season's 13 finalists.

As the show has done since Top Model 4, Top Model 9's girls lived in a posh Los Angeles mansion during the already-filmed show's production. The ninth edition's winner will receive the same prize package that was first introduced in last fall's Top Model 7 -- a management deal with Elite Model Management, a $100,000 contract with cosmetics company CoverGirl, and a cover story and six-page fashion spread in an issue of Seventeen magazine.

Back in May, Banks had teased that Top Model 9 would represent "a whole rebirth of Top Model that I can't talk about right now," however no subsequent "rebirth" plans were ever announced by The CW. When contacted by Reality TV World on Thursday, the show's The CW publicist confimed that Top Model 9 will not feature any significant format changes.

According to The CW publicist, Banks was likely referring to then-undisclosed plans to move Top Model back to New York City -- a move the network has since announced will occur beginning with the show's tenth season -- when she made her "rebirth" comment.

The 13 women competing on the ninth season of America's Next Top Model are:

- Ambreal, a 19-year-old college student from Dallas, TX

- Bianca, a 18-year-old college student from Queens, NY

- Chantal, a 19-year-old student from Austin, TX

- Ebony, a 20-year-old nursing student from Chicago, IL

- Heather, a 21-year-old college student from Valparaiso, IN

- Janet, a 22-year-old aesthetician from Bainbridge, GA

- Jenah, a 18-year-old student from Farmington, CT

- Kimberly, a 20-year-old student from Ocala, FL

- Lisa, a 20-year-old dancer from Jersey City, NJ

- Mila, a 20-year-old recent college graduate from Boston, MA

- Saleisha, a 21-year-old receptionist from Los Angeles, CA

- Sarah, a 20-year-old college student from Heath, MA

- Victoria, a 20-year-old college student from New Haven, CT

Im so pumped about this season!! It seems like it may be a lil diff, which is good!! The girl from Valparaiso, Heather, shes from where I went to college, YAY!! & I liked Lisa too. I cant wait to see next weeks show!! I think Ebony will be fun too!

I thought of you, Stef, when I saw that Heather was from Valparaiso, IN, and wondered if you knew of her. Ebony is a pistol. She's definitely a drama queen, and is going to be a lot of fun to watch. Miss J is a hoot, and Tyra is so down to earth and fun and crazy. During Tyra's opening act on the ship when she was up on stage singing and doing her little dance routine, I was waiting for her to say, "TrimSpa, baby!" ROTFL

It's going to be a great season of ANTM. :nod: Can't wait for the catfights! :D

It looks like an interesting season, hardly anybody caught my eye...but I think every season I say that and by the 3rd or 4th episode I'll choose my girl...might have to wait for makeovers.

I was so bummed when the brooklyn girl didn't make it, she was gorgeous and her hair was beautiful!!!

So far my fav's would be...Chantal, Saleisha........and Jenah. Just hope Jenah loses the bangs after the makeover.

Ebony is alright, I don't think she's that cute...something about her mouth or something, but she seems like a lot of fun, and I think Bianca will be the bitch of the season.

they had a photoshoot about the effects of smoking. it was eerie and gross.

and tyra announced that ANTM9 would be a smoke free zone. also they have gone GREEN.

they had a competition about who could dress like a model the best. they got a trip to old navy. saleisha rocked it.

after deliberation, my lil heathers name was called first. and lisas second. last two were ebony and mila, and mila went home. she was basically blank, both on film and in her head.

I feel really badly for Heather, but I don't think she will be ANTM.

A smoke-free zone! Yay! Kudos to ANTM for tackling this issue and showing the not so pretty and glamorous side of the side effects caused by smoking.

I wasn't impressed w/the way any of the girls looked in their Old Navy outfits, although I agree that Saleisha looked best out of all of them.

Heather...well, I personally don't even think she's attractive at all, but props to her for what she deals with, I just think she has too many set backs to be able to be a model, even criticism alone just seems like it will break the girl, she's too fragile.

Going Green....this season seems like it will be too political for my taste. But I'm always in for ANTM, just hope that Tyra let's the girls have some fun and it's not all about making statements.

Personally, I was hoping that Kimberly went home. Mila was my second choice. Can't wait for the cattiness after they get back to the house because Heather was called first. Honestly, there have been very few girls who look good without make up in the modeling world. Although there are some pretty girls, no one really stands out yet for me. I like Heather, but I think Tyra is out to make statements this season. She doesn't want to be thought of as a Barbie Doll.

I for one do hope Heather goes pretty far. I think she has potential. Those with Asberger's can and do assimilate into society every day. It is very hard for them, but my guess is that you have come into contact with someone at some time or other and just didn't realize it. The problem is in this show the girls are so downright catty and mean, I don't know if she can withstand the pressure. Maybe Yale girl will help her out. She seems to be the only one with half a brain. Not unusual for this show...LOL.

Yeah I like Victoria too. She doesnt feed into the unfun bitchiness and shes just a nice gal. I think Heather has potential too, she seems to learn fast, just has to see what she needs to do. Tyra always likes the girls who learn and grow the most, both in the modeling aspect and in their personal life. I just love love love the show!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Watched the show last nite. Does Bianca choose someone new to pick on each week? Last week Lisa...this week Saleisha...who's next?

Since I have a kiddo with many of the same issues, I gotta root for Heather. She picks something up each week and uses it. She has no preconceived ideas of what a model should do or be. I doubt she will win, but the industry is currently interested in models with disabilities (I hate that word. There has to be something better. Challenged maybe.) Anyway, there are some very beautiful young women this season. I do like Victoria even though because she is a scholar, she over analyzes. There is something very different about her in her pictures. Large eyes and a bit of innocense maybe.

I wasn't surprised that Kimberly went home this week. Most everyone else had good pictures. She didn't.

How funny that Tara has suddenly gone green. I guess she wants to shake that Barbie doll image. :nod:

they got their makeovers. oddly there wasnt anything that made any of the girls cry, which kinda sucked lol. bianca sorta cried but it wasnt too major. they had a makeup putting on challenge and sarah won. they had a photoshoot where they were flowers or grasses or weeds. in the end it was victoria and saleisha in the bottom two, and victoria went home. she was kinda mouthy to the judges and it really rubbed them the wrong way. i think janets name was called first but i am not certain.

I was a little bummed for Victoria leaving, but I really don't think her heart was totally into it. She's a smart girl, and smart girls ask lots of questions. Especially, Yale girls...have we learned nothing from 7 years of Gilmore Girls? I mean, ...Paris, duh!!!

At least Heather is still doing well. I hope she goes far.

bottom two were ebony and ambreal. in a SHOCKING twist of events, ambreal was supposed to be the one leaving BUT ebony said that she did not want to be there, which made tyras eyes flutter in disgust. she said she hates quitters and told ambreal it was meant to be for her to stay. so she did lol.

i am loving heather more and more each week!!! although she is coming on sooo strong in the competition they way they are editing it makes me thing we might have another shandy on our hands! (not for the same reasons that shandy left but that shandy left late in the game).

was going to comment on the other girls:

lisa- not a big fan of her. something about her i just don't like.

bianca- i agree steffi i am starting to like her. the moment the hair came off she sort of started acting more humble.

ambrel- i like the girl but she does need to work on her face. do what bianca did and practice!!! i really think that is all she needs. although it would be hard to pull from this far behind.

shaleshia- see i kinda like her hair! lol i just don't think she knows how to work it right. in the competition i don't see her going much further unless she steps her game up.

sarah- i don't really care for her. and she has lost alot of weight! it didn't even dawn on me!

chantel- i really like her!! but a few more slip ups and she is gone but i see her in the as one of the very few last girls.

jenah- OMG i really like her!!! i see her in the final 2 easily if she keeps what she is bring to the table up!

that is all eight!!! can't wait to see who goes home next!

ok so bianca is starting to ungrow on me lol. sure she speaks the truth, heather does kinda get special treatment BUT she can also NAIL IT with just a few words of direction. so is bianca saying these things out of jealousy, trying to get the focus onto heather and show people shes a threat? cuz if she is, shes doing it the wrong way lol. she should focus on herself for a few minutes, cuz shes starting to lose her fire.

chantal, very glad she got a reality check by being in the bottom two. goodness, yes she is a very striking girl who could do very well, but a little humbleness would be nice to hear once in a while.

Lisa looked incredibly hot...and a little scary last nite. Good for her. She'e had a bit of a hard time since the makeover. I really think she may be coming into her own. Speaking of hot...Emilio Iglesias...Ssssssssssssssssss.

I think Heather will make a fine model. She needs very little direction. As she said last nite, she looks at modeling as art. Does she receive special treatment? Some. She also is talented. Crawling across the floor...she kept her back curved nicely...she looked like a dancer...not a camel.

The previews do look interesting. The volatility of Asbergers will rear it's ugly head. You will see a different side of Heather next week. We don't know what happened yet, but it may be only a little bit of tomfoolery. It will be interesting to see how the other girls react.

Biance just sounds like a jealous little girl to me. She has from the start. But she adds a little spice to the show. I'm still not sure about Sarah. She looked thinner after they cut off her hair. Tyra's move. I'm just not sure that's fair.

Ambreal still didnt bring it, and was eliminated. Lisa stood next to her to get her wake up call.

tonight the girls arrived in shanhai, china, very bright and well lit!! lol

their first challenge was learning karate moves and then having to perform them while being suspended in the air by a wire. bianca is afraid of heights and refused to do the challenge. lisa has a fear too but still did it. although the entire show, lisa was coming off as really defeated. heather won the challenge, she won a shopping spree and took chantal with her.

jenah seems to have something going on too, her eyes are just dead.

the next challenge was a commercial for queen collection makeup. saleisha nailed it, as did chantal. everyone else bombed it. they had a photoshoot after the commercial and they all did really well.

so they had deliberation and the bottom two were lisa and heather. lisa doesnt seem to have the confidence she needs and has lost her fire. heather had to be fed lines and still did lousy on the commercial.

lisa went home. they felt heathers pics were way to strong to let her go.

Twiggy will be leaving as a judge on ANTM. Cycle 9 will be her last one. But have no fear, Paulina Porizkova will be filling her spot for Cycle 10. Yes, you heard me, another cycle is cominggggggggggg. :D

Jenah won the challenge, which was transforming a chinese dress and look into a more modern feel. She picked Chantal to share her prize, a custom made chinese gown.

Bianca was her typical rude bia....... self. So negative and full of venom.

Jenah was still sad and homesick.

Saleisha did awesome in the photo shoot which was with Tyra on The Great Wall.

Chantal nailed the photoshoot and was called first.
Saleisha called second.

So that leaves Bianca and Jenah in the bottom two.
BIANCA WENT HOME!!!!!!!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!
She scowled and looked like she was gonna kick Tyras ass. She will never learn. She thinks she knows it all already.

The three girls did another Cover Girl commercial and photo shoot. Jenah and Saleisha both struggled with their lines and had many many takes, Saleisha had the most. All 3 gave us a fabulous photo though!!

The first deliberation resulted in Jenah being sent home. She did have the breakthrough she was wanting though, and found a piece of who she really is. The judges saw her as hard and sarcastic and not really shining her true self though. The girls were asked who they thought was the strongest and who was the weakest. All 3 said themselves were the strongest. Jenah said Chantal was the weakest, and Chantal and Saleisha both said Jenah was the weakest.

Next, Saleisha and Chantal had another photoshoot for Seventeen. Then it was time for the RUNWAY SHOWDOWN STOMP TO THE DEATH!!!

Saleishas walk is always strong and confident, and at times a lil too strong and wiggly. Chantals walk is stiff and kinda timid, but her long lean body makes dresses look wonderful.

Chantal had an oops during the runway, a guy on stilts stepped on her dress train and DOWN he went lmfao. She stopped and went GASP, and then continued her runway. She never quite pulled it together after that, she was very hard on herself for it.

In the end, the judges decided that Saleisha had taken it all in and took the judges advice and made the changes she needed to make. Even though both girls had strong photos throughout the competition, they decided that Saleisha was more of what they were looking for to represent them and Cover Girl.

Great season!! I still love my Heather!! Congrats to Saleisha!!!

Are you going to watch it this time around, Stef? I wasn't too thrilled with the last cycle. I thought Heather was really weird. Her eyes were truly scary when she stared at people. It looked like she was possessed. It wasn't a big surprise that Saleisha won.

I dunno... I'll probably tune in for the first few episodes and see how it goes.
